River Landing at Sandy Ridge, is a faith-based, not-for-profit division of the The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. (PHI). Opening in 2003, it is the newest and the largest of the three continuing care retirement communities (CCRC) that PHI operates. Our CARF-CCAC accreditation and our five-star rating by Medicare affirm our outstanding reputation and our commitment to enhancing and extending the lives of those who call River Landing home.

People move to River Landing from all over the country to enjoy an exceptional way of life while securing their future. It is not just a place to live; it’s a way to live.

Person-Centered Care

In 2011, we introduced Person-Centered Care in our Health Center. Instead of the traditional, institutional approach to care, we put the individual’s preferences first. At River Landing, the person always comes before the task and the voices of older adults and those working with them are considered and respected.

Person-Centered Care is about creating a home inside our skilled nursing area. It is a place where residents choose to live their lives with staff who enjoy assisting them. The results are telling: we’ve seen greatly improved patient outcomes and increased resident satisfaction. We are proud to be a leader in making care personal.

River Landing’s History

River Landing opened in 2003 as a division of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc., a faith-based, not-for-profit organization that has been operating continuing care retirement communities (CCRC) for more than 62 years. We added 47 apartments and 25 homes in 2007-08, giving us a total of 298 apartments and 110 homes. River Landing grew again in 2009, building Winged Foot, our 16-room Rehabilitation Center, and expanding our Wellness Center.

With the community less than eight years old in 2010, we began upgrading the residential apartments and homes. We now offer crown molding and upgraded lighting throughout the residences and tile floors in the bathrooms. Kitchens have granite countertops and tile backsplashes and floors and stainless steel appliances. We pride ourselves on personalizing residences for everyone.

River Landing embarked on a culture change journey to Person-Centered Care in our Health Center in 2011. That shift afforded residents much more personalized care and attention and we continue to deepen our commitment to this model of living and providing health and human services.

In 2014, we received CARF-CCAC accreditation, a testament of our commitment to providing person-centered, quality services.

The Presbyterian Homes, Inc.

The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. (PHI) was formed in 1944 to found a community for seniors. In 1952, The Presbyterian Home of High Point opened opened in High Point, North Carolina. It was the second such community in North Carolina and the first to receive CARF-CCAC accreditation.

PHI opened its second continuing care retirement community, Scotia Village, in 1988. Located in Laurinburg, North Carolina, the community became widely recognized for its lush landscape and exceptional service.

Glenaire, the third PHI community, opened in 1993. Located in the heart of Cary, North Carolina, it has earned a reputation for being the place to retire in the town.

River Landing at Sandy Ridge, the newest and largest PHI community, opened in 2003. Located in the heart of the Triad, its golf course and tennis court draws people from all over the country.

In 2009, The Presbyterian Home of High Point closed and its residents moved to River Landing, just down the road.
