What is River Landing?
River Landing is a new "lifestyle" retirement community. Our residents say we are more like a resort. There are residences that range from one-bedroom apartments all the way to three-bedroom, freestanding cottages. The choice is yours. Amenities abound…from a nine-hole golf course, croquet and tennis courts, Aquatic and Wellness Center, three dining venues, library, billiards room, woodworking shop, multi-purpose auditorium and chapel to a computer lab for residents. You name it and we have it. That is what we mean by lifestyle. And, yes, River Landing does offer its residents the benefit of having a full continuum of care from assisted living and skilled nursing to a special memory care area for Alzheimer's and dementia related illnesses.

What is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC)?
A continuing care retirement community means residents can move into the independent living home of their choice long before they may need care. They can enjoy life without the worries about the "what ifs," and know they can move through the full continuum of care, if ever needed. River Landing has residential apartments, cottages, town homes, and villas as well as all levels of care-assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care.

What is the financial program at River Landing?
Residents pay an Entrance Fee and a Monthly Fee. The Entrance Fee varies depending upon the residence selected, whether an apartment, villa, town home or cottage. The amount of the Entrance Fee is set at the time you make the initial deposit based upon the type of residence selected. The Entrance Fee covers the right to live in the residence of your choice, plus all the amenities, as long as you are able to live there independently. In addition, it assures access to the health care center should you ever need it, either on a temporary or long-term basis. The Monthly Fee varies according to the residence selected. It covers all the services, programs and amenities provided on a monthly basis. There is a second person fee if two persons share a residence.

Is any portion of the Entrance Fee refundable?
A portion of the Entrance Fee is refundable up to four years. River Landing earns the Entrance Fee at 2% per month. If you leave River Landing, you would receive a refund of the amount of your Entrance Fee, less 2% for each month or portion of a month of residency, less a 4% administrative charge. In the event of a resident's death, or the death of both spouses, any refundable amount is paid to the resident's estate. At the end of four years, however, River Landing has earned 100% of the Entrance Fee and there is no refund. River Landing also offers a 50% and 90% refundable Entrance Fee option if requested.

How do I make a reservation?
First, you should meet with a member of the marketing staff. You would select a residence, complete a Residence and Care Agreement and make a 10% deposit of the Entrance Fee. You should receive a Disclosure Statement as required by N. C. Statute Chapter 58, Article 64. Once this step is done, you would complete application forms that provide Presbyterian Homes, Inc. a basis for the determination of acceptance for residency. This process usually takes about a week to ten days. You will be notified in writing of your acceptance. Residents are expected to move in within ninety (90) days of making the reservation.

When I am offered a residence at River Landing at Sandy Ridge, must I accept?
You may delay your entrance into the community. If so, you may choose "Not Ready" one time. You must then request in writing that your application be re-activated at the time of your choosing. Your name will be placed on the active waiting list. We recommend to those who are offered a residence NOT choose "Not Ready." Very often the time that passes while applicants are "Not Ready" is critical to their health and well-being. They then find themselves needing care and in the unfortunate position of not being able to become a resident with their choice of health care. Residents always receive priority with health care at River Landing. We recommend you choose the lifestyle while it is an option. Your move will be less difficult and you will be able to enjoy the benefits and friendships of living in a retirement community.

Who makes the decision if I need to be relocated to Assisted Living or the Nursing Center?
We take a team approach to make the major decision if your transfer is appropriate and necessary. The team is made up of you, as much as you are able to participate, your family, the Medical Director, the Executive Director, the Director of Nursing, and other members of the social work and nursing staff, as needed. It is the policy of River Landing to encourage and allow you to remain in independent living as long as it is in your best interest-for your health, safety and well-being.

What does "Grace Days in the Nursing Center" mean?
Very often, if there is a health event or illness, residents may need some nursing intervention before being able to resume independent lifestyles. If so, those persons may spend some time in the Nursing Center getting well or recovering their strength. During such stays, there is a 14 day "grace period" when they are not required to pay the daily charge for occupancy in the Nursing Center, but they shall pay for the other services not covered by the monthly fee. The 14 days need not be consecutive, but may not be carried forward to successive years.
back to top What happens if I run out of money?
River Landing's mission is to serve people from all economic levels. Financial assistance is available as long as The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. remains financially strong and can provide the services to all residents as provided in the Residence and Care Agreement. We serve those in need in several ways, and we wish to encourage those persons to approach the community through the Executive Director. You will be welcomed and encouraged to apply. The financial statements of every individual in our community and those persons applying for our Future Residency List are held in the strictest of confidence. |
